I have a 3.5 gpa and I take AP and Honors classes but I recently decided I want to go to school for directing?

Is it foolish to be so driven for something that isn't surefire to get me anywhere in life? I have decided very recently that I want to be a film director/producer so I am planning to go to Full Sail university in a few years to get a bachelors degree in film. Is that stupid to throw away all of the things that I worked on in high school for a degree like this? I don't care personally but I want to know (somewhat) how my mom's gonna react
